Synthesis of 1,4-Butanediol Catalyst by Reppe Method

Synthesis of 1,4-Butanediol Catalyst by Reppe Method

1-4 Butanediol catalyst

1,4-Butanediol, abbreviated as BDO, is a high value-added fine chemical product. It is one of the products in the methanol series product chain; It is also an important basic organic and fine chemical raw material. In recent years, driven by the two major industries of China's electronic and electrical industry and automotive industry, the demand for BDO in the production of PBT has been increasing year by year, and the future PBT market will affect the sales of BDO. The development of the engineering polymer and elastic fiber markets in Asia will significantly increase the demand for BDO, making Asia an important consumer region for 1,4-butanediol.

Detailed Introduction

1, 4-Butanediol, abbreviated as BDO, is a high value-added fine chemical product.

After 2011, China's BDO production capacity surged, reaching 1.3 million tons in 2013 and 1.81 million tons in 2016, with a total output of 1.08 million tons. Reppe method accounted for 70% of the newly added production capacity from 2013 to 2015. The growth rate in the northwest region is 67%, while in the east region it is only 2%, with production capacity shifting westward. Xinjiang's production capacity has reached 900000 tons, accounting for 50%.

In the 1930s, Reppe and others from I.G. Faben (predecessor of BASF) successfully developed the BDO production process, which was first industrialized by BASF in Germany in 1940.

At present, 13 sets of Reppe method synthesis units for 1,4-butanediol have been built in China, and the key catalysts are in the hands of several large foreign companies. At the same time, there is no foreign company that can provide all three catalysts at the same time. Therefore, the localization of the three catalysts has significant technical and economic significance!

After years of effort, Huashuo Technology Co., Ltd. has independently developed three catalysts for the Reppe method to synthesize 1,4-butanediol: EQ-101 formaldehyde catalyst, EQ-201 alkynylation catalyst, and EQ-301 hydrogenation catalyst.

Completed by Huashuo Technology Co., Ltd; Research on Three Key Catalysts for the Synthesis of 1,4-Butanediol by Reppe Method; The research results passed the expert appraisal organized by the Hubei Provincial Department of Science and Technology in Wuhan on December 26, 2012. The appraisal opinion is as follows:

The Reppe method for synthesizing 1,4-butanediol using three key catalysts demonstrates innovation in the screening of special additives, optimization of preparation and molding processes, resulting in optimized catalyst structure, improved catalytic activity, extended catalyst lifespan, and comprehensive performance reaching international advanced levels.

  2. This study has completely independent intellectual property rights, and the three catalysts will have a significant impact on improving the process indicators and economic benefits of the Reppe method for synthesizing 1,4-butanediol. It is recommended to accelerate the application and promotion work.
